As part of The United States Artist Fellowship, the Knight Award was given to Xavier as the “Hometown Hero” grant. In partnership with the Kimmel Center, W.O.R.X presented free open to the public workshops, a panel discussion and a dance jam taught by a host of progressive Hip Hop artists in the field.
Guest teachers included Teena Marie Custer, D. Sabela Grimes, and B-boy Neguin in addition to featured panelists Ursula Rucker, Tyiib Smith & Ryan ‘Napalm’ Wagner.
This day-long session of classes, panel discussion and movement sharing was about creating dialogue to inspire artists in dance and the arts, covering a vast breadth and depth of artistic insight into the Hip Hop culture and performative arts for artists who are thinking about a career in Hip Hop dance and art forms. It also served as a way to give back to the Philadelphia artist communities for their ongoing support over the years.
